Dandelion Root:

The root of the dandelion is one of our most widely applicable, gentle tonics for liver function. Dandelion root is used to purify the liver and gallbladder of toxins. Dandelion is beneficial to the kidneys, pancreas, spleen, stomach and other organs. It can also purify the bloodstream and liver.

Phosphatidyl Choline:

Phosphatidyl Choline is used by the liver for emulsifying fats. Choline regulates the amount of fat that accumulates in the liver and emulsifies cholesterol. It will not actually digest the fats and clear them, that’s the job of the enzyme ”lipase”, which is also in this formula. However, it does facilitate the breaking down and allowing fats to be transported to where the lipase can digest it.

Black Radish (Raphanus Niger):

Works in conjunction with the liver in the body’s natural efforts to detoxify and is used to mobilize heavy metals. It is a mild diuretic, strong antioxidant, and a good natural source of Vitamin B and C, sulfur and fiber. The herb is also believed to be cleansing and antibacterial, and promotes the healthy secretion of bile.

Apple and Citrus Pectin:

These natural components of fruits and vegetables- activated by enzymes- grab heavy metals and toxins, encapsulating them and transporting them out of our body. Pectins bind cell walls in plant tissues and remove unwanted metals and toxins.

L.E.A.D.S.®:

Transfer-Tox™ is an all-in-one liver/kidney/heavy metal detox program. It is an all-natural, whole food, vegetarian supplement. Find out what makes this product so special. Following is a breakdown of the first five Ingredients in Transfer-Tox™ :

Silymarin from Milk Thistle:

Milk thistle is the most widely recognized natural remedy for liver health and support. It has been shown in scientific studies to not only protect liver cells, but also to help regenerate healthy ones. Milk thistle blocks toxins entering the liver, helps remove toxins from the liver and regenerates liver cells.

Lipase:

A vegetarian enzyme that digests dietary fat into useable fatty acids. With the lipase in Transfer-Tox™, the body’s ability to properly use fats is naturally and safely supported.

Black Currant Extract:

Black currants are the richest source of Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA). Black currant extract is used to adjust the fatty acid profile in the diet. While the body is capable of synthesizing GLA from linolenic acid this conversion is impaired in cases of liver dysfunction.

Garlic:

Garlic stimulates the detoxification activity that the liver needs in order to be able to handle any load, especially that of fatty materials. Dissolves cholesterol in the bloodstream, lowers LDL cholesterol, and enhances the immune function.

Barberry Bark Powder:

This bark is a natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It has shown to improve the overall function of the immune system. Barberry is excellent for correcting liver function and promoting the flow of bile. The bark is astringent, anti diarrheal, and healing to the intestinal wall.

Next Week: A breakdown of the remaining 5 main Ingredients that make up the wonderful Transfer-Tox™!

There are hundreds of detox plans and books on the market that claim to help you learn how to detox the liver, colon, kidneys and more. There are still other products that claim to help you shed those extra pounds faster than ever- by doing a detox! But do they work? And are they healthy for you?

An article on WebMD stated, “Beyonce made the maple syrup, lemon juice, and cayenne pepper Master Cleanse formula (also known as the Lemonade Diet) famous when she dropped 20 pounds quickly for her role in Dreamgirls. Knowles regained the weight soon thereafter and in interviews warned dieters away from the regimen.” The article continued by stating, “These fad diet detox plans are nothing more than a quick fix and not recommended for weight loss by registered dietitians.”

So say “no” to fad diet detox plans that require fasting, and say “yes” to an all-natural, whole-food detox supplement.

Choosing A Detox Supplement

We have already discussed in previous articles why it is so important to detox your liver and kidneys. In fact, to detoxify the liver without supporting the kidneys would actually be counterproductive! Your body needs more than Milk Thistle to kick those toxins to the curb! Why? Becuase Milk Thistle only works to detox the liver. More is needed.

Transfer-Tox™

That is why we went to work on a product that is complete. There was no other product out there on the market that detoxified the liver while supporting healthy kidney function, AND that would mobilize and detox heavy metals from the body. So we gave birth to a product that did just that.

Transfer-Tox™ is the most complete 3-In-One detox program. We added only the highest quality ingredients to make the formula truly special and unique.

Next Post: See a breakdown of each Ingredient in Transfer-Tox™ and find out what makes this product so special.

As we discussed in our Your Amazing Liver blog, the liver has life sustaining functions. It maintains cholesterol levels, metabolism, and produces proteins such as albumin and other blood clotting agents. The liver is the body’s very own detoxification center. Clearly, the liver is worth supporting and detoxing. But what about the kidneys?

The Kidneys are part of the urinary system, the endocrine system, and are two of the most important internal organs in the body. They are responsible for filtering the blood, regulating the urinary system, and producing hormones. They are extremely efficient and complex organs. So, yes, the kidneys are also worth detoxing and supporting.

If that isn’t enough ammunition to get you started on a detox, this fact may be: Apart from helping to get rid of the bad stuff, a proper detox could actually boost your energy levels and make you feel better than ever.

Many times, the body holds onto toxins in the digestive, lymph, or gastrointestinal system as well as in skin and hair. They then can cause problems such as fatigue, headaches, nausea, and other wide range of problems. Heavy metal toxicity may also contribute to headaches, coronary artery disease, Meniere’s disease, tinnitus, depression, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and some skin diseases.

Your body may be full of toxins if you:

Drink Alcohol

Drink Caffeine

Have Amalgam Dental Fillings

Drink Unfiltered Water, or Chlorinated Water

Use Antiperspirants Containing Aluminum

Consume Artificial Sweeteners or Preservatives in Food

So what should you look for when choosing a detox supplement? Here’s a hint: Your body needs more than Milk Thistle to kick those toxins to the curb! Find out why next week, and what additional ingredients you should be looking for in a detox product.

Last week, again, we got an AMAZING success story! This time e-mailed in to us by Julie Noble. All of us here at NWC Naturals would like to take this opportunity to thank you Julie, and all of our loyal customers who have sent your success stories in. We realize it takes time on your part to type out such extensive testimonials, and we’d like to thank you for allowing us to share each and every one of your stories with our entire customer base! We really do appreciate it.

Julie’s letter to us read as follows:

Hello Dr. John,

Regarding the success we’ve had with Total-Zymes® , please allow me to give you a brief story about our shepherds. Emma Joon and Brody are littermates and will be 3 years old on the 23rd of this month, and we’ve had them since they were 7 1/2 weeks old. When Brody was about 8 months old he was officially diagnosed with severe hip dysplaysia in his left hip and a mild case in his right. Since he was too old for the surgery that can be done on really young dogs and too young for hip replacement, we opted to have the vet perform FOS surgery on him because he was in so much pain and couldn’t wait till he was two for the hip replacement. For the first year, his healing progress was very slow. He favored the left side and continued to limp for the whole first year or so. Our prayer then was that he healed quickly to avoid any unnecessary strain on the other side. We were afraid the right side would get worse since it was bearing all of the weight. But thankfully, that didn’t happen. Emma shows not evidence of dysplaysia yet and is as agile as a cat. She’s very athletic and has the hind quarter muscle appearance of a fine quarter horse. She is very fast and never stops.

Around about July of 2010 (they were 15 mos old at that time), I decided to start both of them on Glucosamine and chondroitin. After talking with a friend of mine who is a licensed nutritionist and is very knowledgeable in animal nutrition as well, I started them on Glucosamine Sulfate…1000mg/day(1 capsule 2x/day w/a.m. & p.m. meals); and a Collagen supplement at 700mg/day (1 capsule 2x/day a.m. & evening meals). I also give them 500mg L-Carnitine per day (1 tablet 2x/day am & pm) for heart health and fat metabolism. I also opted to put them on a grain free diet and started them on Precise Brand “Foundation” kibble. And upon the recommendation of our vet, particularly for Brody, they started getting Omega 3 Fish oil for pets at about this time as well. They also get a wide variety of grain-free treats with varying protein, carbohydrate, vegetable and fruit sources every day. They also get lots of raw veggies and fruits as snacks too. So you see, they have quite an extensive diet regimen. Well, I got to thinking about all this complexity and wondered if they were indeed getting the most out of what they were eating and did some research on digestive enzymes. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the information I found on your site petenzymes.com. So I bought the little chewable Total-Zymes® Plus™ which I give them with their treats every night. Mostly for the digestive enzyme part but the probiotic part is a bonus. Long story short, about 6 months after I started them on the Total-Zymes® powder, I started noticing a marked difference in Brody….he wasn’t limping anymore and wasn’t favoring his FOS hip either. I also notice more energy, and strength as well as a leaner physique in both of them. Not that Emma Joon NEEDs anymore energy, but it was wonderful to watch her stamina. All in all, I am very pleased with the results I’ve seen and will continue to use Total-Zymes® powder and Total-Zymes® Plus™ tabs for as long as you keep making them.

So thank you very much, Dr. John. I look very forward to learning about new products you come up with in the future.

Most sincerely,

Julie, Emma Joon, and Brody Noble

Thanks again Julie for sending that letter in! Visit NWCnaturals.com to find out more about our great line of pet products!

We will also talk about how to get the maximum benefits out of your detox, and what ingredients to look for when choosing a detox supplement. First, let us consider how your amazing liver works:

The liver is one of our most crucial organs, performing over 500 functions. Like a miniature refinery, the liver converts carbohydrates, fats and proteins into substances essential for life. It exports and manufactures nutrients needed by other organs to function properly such as bile used by the intestines during digestion. The liver also purifies our blood of toxic substances from the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe. If the liver is not functioning optimally, our body begins to store these toxins in our tissues.

Bile is made in the liver but stored in the gall bladder. Bile is produced in the liver from cholesterol. It is stored in the gallbladder which is situated just below the liver. The gallbladder is connected to the cystic duct which opens in the small intestine. The gall bladder receives the bile from liver through the common bile duct which is formed by the union of two hepatic ducts. The bile is then concentrated more than ten times in the gallbladder. It is released into the small intestine in response to stimulation by fatty foods. Bile’s function is to break down fats into microscopic droplets. This emulsification helps digestion by increasing greater surface area for better absorption. Then the pancreas produces pancreatic lipase to break fats down into glycogen and fatty acids.

Do you need more than Milk Thistle to do a proper detox? Stay tuned for next week’s blog to find out!

There are countless digestive enzyme products on the market today. Does it matter which ones you choose? Are all digestive enzymes the same? Following we will give a brief overview of the two most popular types of digestive enzymes available: Animal and Vegetarian. Secondly, we will discuss the impact that each of these products has on the digestive tract and the body as a whole.

Animal Enzymes: Animal-based enzymes are extracted from the pancreatic tissue of slaughtered pigs and cows.

Vegetarian: Plant-based enzymes are derived from whole food sources including pineapple, papaya and mushroom-based fermentation.

So how do these enzymes effect my body?

The high pH environment of the small intestine is the only place animal-based enzymes can function, as they are extremely sensitive to low pH ranges. This means that animal based enzymes may not survive outside of this environment. Plant-based enzymes are not destroyed by the acidic conditions of the stomach and, therefore, are stable in the upper stomach where they can begin processing food immediately.

Will I experience any side effects when taking digestive enzymes?

There are no known side effects associated with vegetarian enzymes.

Digestive enzymes like pancreatin, trypsin, chymotrypsin, ox bile, and hydrochloric acid are all harvested from animals and can cause negative side effects as well as other major health problems. As discussed on WebMD some pancreatin products are contaminated by Salmonella bacteria and have caused illness. Common side effects of pancreatin are: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, mouth and skin irritation, and allergic reactions. High doses can cause problems such as high levels of uric acid in the blood, as well as colon damage.

The Solution?

Look for a vegetarian enzyme product that utilizes a mineral delivery system. Ultra-Enzyme Support® contains L.E.A.D.S.® Live Enzyme Activated Delivery System® which supplies all the enzymes and cofactors necessary to enhance digestion and delivery. Other formulas not utilizing L.E.A.D.S.® will strip minerals and other nutrients from the body in their effort to activate the enzymes.

Trying to get more probiotics into your diet naturally? Here are some of the top foods that contain probiotics:

Yogurt is one of the most common foods that can be easily obtained from nearly any grocery store. However, many yogurts do not have any live cultures and therefore offer no probiotic benefits. Always make sure that the yogurt you purchase does contain live active cultures by reading the label. While the amount of probiotics in yogurt is not very therapeutic, it is a good start, and a good supplement to any diet- provided you have no intolerance to lactose.

Sauerkraut is also loaded with probiotic bacterium- believe it or not! This might be one of those dishes that is good for the summer to go with all those hot dogs, and is great when grilling or camping. Sauerkraut is basically fermented cabbage. Another form of fermented cabbage is called Kim Chi, and is a Korean version of sauerkraut. It has a much stronger smell and is usually a bit on the spicy side.

Miso is a seasoning that has been made in Japan for many thousands of years. Miso is made by fermenting various types of beans and grains. It is used for making soups and flavoring sauces. Popular types of miso include: Shiro miso (white miso); Kuro miso (black miso); Aka miso (red miso). Each of these varieties are good to use for adding probiotics to your meal. Remember though, if you boil the miso to make soup, all the probiotics die and are thus worthless! Try making a miso salad dressing or dipping sauce!

Tempeh is another fermented soy food that is very rich in probiotics. It has a firm texture similar to that of meat it is used as a vegetarian and vegan replacement for meat. Since tempeh uses whole soybeans that are allowed to ferment to form the probiotic nutrients, tempeh is also rich in protein and vitamin B12.

Buttermilk is another dairy food that is loaded with beneficial probiotic bacteria. You may even enjoy the sharp flavor and thick texture of buttermilk. If you find that straight buttermilk is not your thing, try adding it into your fruit smoothie.

Also try supplementing your diet with Pro-Biotics Plus® capsules or chewables.

Every time we have stomach discomfort, heartburn, and indigestion we take an antacid. Is this the best solution? Do antacids and acid blockers solve that problem or just cause another? Let’s answer these questions:

Where does indigestion come from?

It stems from not digesting your food thoroughly and the undigested food causes discomfort and other health problems. It is not because we have an antacid drug deficiency. But we do have an enzyme deficiency.

How do antacids work?

Antacid drugs work by either neutralizing the stomach acids or by blocking acid production. When using antacids, non-beneficial bacteria can enter your body because the acid bath is not there to protect you from the germs and bacteria that goes in your mouth.

The HCL (stomach acid) in your stomach destroys harmful bacteria that can enter into our bodies that could be in our food or in the air we breathe. Without this protection we open ourselves to harmful organisms and possible bad bacteria with numerous infections.

So is destroying the acid bath really the best solution?

Indigestion almost always occurs from eating cooked and processed foods or not chewing raw foods good enough to release the digestive enzymes they contain. Remember cooked and processed foods do not have any enzymes. 118 degrees destroys all digestive enzymes normally occurring in ALL raw foods.

The key is to eat more raw foods less processed foods and get away from the acid blockers which prevent proper digestion and instead encourage the proper digestion of your foods.

You might try taking digestive enzymes and probiotics to help your discomfort.

Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary defines Insomnia as “prolonged and usually abnormal inability to get enough sleep.” Interestingly, the National Sleep Foundation reports that “Forty-eight percent of Americans report insomnia occasionally, while 22 percent experience insomnia every or almost every night.” The market offers a wide variety of sleeping pills to help with insomnia, but these may trigger multiple negative side effects. So what can you do to naturally win the fight against your restless nights?

Following are the top 4 ways to get a more restful night’s sleep:

1. Take time to unwind

Start about 45 minutes before bedtime: turn off computers, cell phones, bright lights, and RELAX! This will send signals to your brain that it is time for bed and help your body prep for sleep. Another great way to unwind is to sip a natural herbal tea, which will have a calming effect on the body and mind. Try African Sunrise™ Rooibos Tea. This antioxidant-rich tea can also help with irritability, mild depression, nervous tension, nausea and constipation.

2. Try Melatonin Night Cream™

What is Melatonin? It is a hormone made by the pineal gland, a small gland in the brain. Melatonin helps control your sleep and wake cycles. Very small amounts of it are found in foods such as meats, grains, fruits, and vegetables. Your body has its own internal clock that controls your natural cycle of sleeping and waking hours. In part, your body clock controls how much melatonin your body makes. Normally, melatonin levels begin to rise in the mid- to late evening, remain high for most of the night, and then drop in the early morning hours. Light affects how much melatonin your body produces. During the shorter days of the winter months, your body may produce melatonin either earlier or later in the day than usual. Start by applying ¼ tsp of cream to your face or neck 45 minutes to 1 hour before bedtime.

3. Live a healthy lifestyle

Try eliminating caffeine from your diet completely. This will help get your body back to it’s natural sleep and wake cycle. Engage in daily breathing exercises, as well as 30 minutes of aerobic exercise 5 days a week. This is especially important if you lead a sedentary lifestyle. Vigorous exercise fatigues the muscles causing your body to crave that rest it needs, and in turn, get better sleep. Foods also play a big part in getting restful sleep. Low blood sugar levels in the middle of the night can cause unrest, so it’s important to eat a low-glycemic dinner rich in protein and healthy fats.

4. Get Enough Calcium

William Sears M.D., wrote on his website, “The best bedtime snack is one that has both complex carbohydrates and protein, and perhaps some calcium. Calcium helps the brain use the tryptophan to manufacture melatonin. This explains why dairy products, which contain both tryptophan and calcium, are one of the top sleep-inducing foods.” Foods that are rich in Calcium include: milk, yogurt, cheese, kale, broccoli, red kidney beans, almonds and brazil nuts. In addition to these calcium-rich foods, whole food calcium supplements are also available at a reasonable cost.
